Patrick Mayton - Art Faculty

Biography/Credentials

Patrick Mayton received a BFA in Printmaking with minors in Art History, Drawing, and Sculpture from the University of Montevallo in 1998. He was accepted to the graduate program in Printmaking at Arizona State University in 2000 and completed his MFA in 2004. While at ASU he was awarded a teaching assistantship and taught 6 consecutive semesters of Color Theory, and was the recipient of the Nathan Cummings Travel Grant in 2003. While traveling on the Nathan Cummings grant he studied Letterpress printing at Hatch Show Print in Nashville, TN, Yee Haw Industries in Knoxville, TN, and the Hamilton Wood Type Factory and Museum in Two Rivers, WI.

From Spring of 2005 to Fall of 2009 he taught 3 art classes per semester for the University of Montevallo in Printmaking, Book Arts, 3-D Design, and Drawing. From Fall of 2005 to Spring of 2010, and in Fall of 2014, he taught 1 to 2 classes per semester at University of Alabama, Birmingham, in Intaglio, Lithography, Relief Printing, and 2-D Design. From Spring 2006 to the present he has taught both part and full time for Jefferson State Community College, teaching classes in 2-D Design, Drawing, Intro to Computer Graphics, and Art Appreciation. Also during this time he has done book arts, screen print, and gold leaf demonstrations and seminars at Forstall Art Supply, The Birmingham Museum, Falcon Art Supply, and at several art festivals.

Since returning to Birmingham in 2005 he has participated in Birmingham Art Walk twice as an exhibitor and once as a juror. He has participated in Moss Rock Arts Festival three times. He was named one of the best young artists in Birmingham by Schedler-Minchin Fine Art in Homewood. He has exhibited in several University of Montevallo alumni exhibits, and an exhibit at UAB celebrating 5 years of Bottletree’s Rock n Roll Broadsides. He is represented by the Blue Phrog Gallery in Montevallo, and is constantly producing new art and graphics, primarily in the screen print medium.
