JSCC Debate Team Wins Top Community College

unionThe Jefferson State Debate Team won Top Community College at the Bulldog Debate Tournament, hosted by Union University on October 1-2. The International Public Debate Association (IPDA) tournament drew 28 colleges and universities from 10 states.

In the Junior Varsity Division, Team Captain Jacob Davidson was ranked 2nd place speaker and was a debate semi-finalist. In the Novice Division, Brook McMillan made it to octofinals and Blake Denney was a quarterfinalist.

IPDA is an impromptu-style of debate where the topic changes with each round and students have 30 minutes to research and form arguments. Topics can be on anything from politics to economics to pop culture.
