BIRMINGHAM, AL — Midnight Tear, a powerful new film based on Dr. Jeffrey Pouncey’s novel about the tragic Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, will premiere Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Judy M. Merritt Building at the Shelby Campus of Jefferson State Community College (JSCC).
Adapted for the screen by the Beta Lambda Delta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and produced by JSCC’s Pioneer Players, Midnight Tear brings to life one of the darkest chapters in American history. The film explores the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, an event in which a white mob destroyed the thriving Black community of Greenwood, often referred to as “Black Wall Street,” killing hundreds and displacing thousands. Through compelling storytelling and gripping performances, the film offers a poignant and emotional reflection on this pivotal moment in American history.
