Radiologic Technology
The Rad Tech program is offered only at the Shelby-Hoover Campus
Radiologic Technology is the art and science of producing diagnostic medical images using ionizing radiation (x-ray) in diagnosis and treatment by physicians. The five-semester program includes comprehensive coursework and clinical education beginning in the first semester. The on-campus laboratory offers students the opportunity to learn radiographic imaging utilizing digital and mobile radiography. All lecture and laboratory courses are offered on the Shelby Hoover Campus.
Upon successful completion of the 75 credit-hour program, students are awarded an Associate in Applied Science degree. The program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. Graduates are eligible to take the national certification exam offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

About the Program
The program begins in the Fall semester each year with the application period in the Summer semester. The radiology application contains the information regarding specific dates for the application deadline.
Upon admission into the program, students are involved in clinical activities at area hospitals to gain further “hands on” knowledge. Most clinical rotations are from 7 am-3 pm.
The program currently has Clinical Affiliate partnership with many Radiography Departments in the Greater Birmingham Area
Once registered as a radiographer, individuals are eligible for employment in hospitals, emergency clinics, doctor’s offices or other health care facilities. Credits earned in the associate degree program at Jefferson State may be applied toward a bachelor’s degree or higher at many participating Universities.
